UK Pensions Training & Events
At Hogan Lovells, we run a comprehensive programme of pension training for clients and their advisers
- For new UK pension trustees: an annual full-day seminar covering all legal aspects of the Pensions Regulator's trustee knowledge and understanding (TKU) syllabus.
- For experienced pension trustees: an annual half-day seminar considering legal developments in pensions in the previous 12 months and looking ahead to what can be expected in the following year.
- For employers, pension professionals (and trustees): regular informal breakfast seminars reviewing legal developments over the previous few months and explaining the practical implications for pension schemes. These seminars can be more technical than those aimed specifically at trustees and assume a working knowledge of the basics of pension provision in the UK.
- Interactive workshops: workshops for trustees and employers on a variety of topics such as: negotiating scheme funding agreements; issues specific to defined contribution (DC) arrangements; liability reduction exercises; amending schemes; dealing with ill health early retirement applications; and distributing death benefit lump sums. Using case studies and group exercises, the emphasis is very much on audience participation!
- One-off seminars: seminars on topical subjects such as auto-enrolment, investment and pensions, pension buyouts and buy-ins, and reducing pension liabilities.
- Bespoke training: we are happy to arrange targeted training delivered by our pension lawyers for individual clients and trustees by agreement.
Climate change and pensions: what trustees should know
2 March 2022
How climate change impacts pension investment (and the employer covenant) is now a major issue for trustees. While only the largest schemes are (currently) subject to the additional and complex requirements arising from the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), trustees of all schemes should consider how climate change impacts the risk management of their schemes.
At our webinar speakers from Hogan Lovells pension team were joined by Jane Evans (covenant adviser and Associate Partner, EY-Parthenon) and James Leeming (investment consultant and Partner, XPS) to discuss:
- TCFD and pensions: what the law requires
- Box ticking or meaningful exercise? Ensuring climate-related activity results in value for your scheme
- Minding the gaps: practical approaches to incomplete data and other challenges
- Climate risk and the employer covenant: what is needed

Alternative investments by pension schemes: avoiding the legal pitfalls

At this half-day pension seminar, experts from the Hogan Lovells pensions, real estate, banking and corporate teams together with a guest speaker from Aon Hewitt, will consider the legal aspects of alternative investments for pension schemes.
